Your using the wrong kind of tape for your application. Painters tape is for house painters. It has a glue that won't fuse with finishes after being applied for a long while. It is supposed to be easily removed and not cause damage to the surface it is applied to such as varnishes on base boards. Painters do not use tape as guidelines. The tape is meant to keep splatters off of objects or to secure plastic to furniture and other misc. stuff. You need to get professional auto body tape from your local auto body supply store. They have tape that has minimal bleed for use in spraying. It is also used by airbrush artists.
