Why mess with a decal? First off the stripe was gold not yellow. Secondly there are many places you can buy color stiping for rhe model. I would suggest either Pactra Trim tape or Color Stripe by Carl Goldberg models Inc. They are available at most hobby centers here and are a rather inexpensive fix for the stripe problem.
