This is the first I've seen of the newly retooled
Titanic kit by Minicraft, and so far they've done
a fine job. Correcting the angle of the breakwater
on the forecastle is a major improvement (one that
took me many tedious hours to correct on my model)
as well as the new No. 1 hatch, added kedge and
center anchors, and crew galley skylight. All of
these changes cost me many hours of labor and
it's nice to know no one will have to do this again.
Also much appreciated are the corrected well
deck sides. This was another job that took me
hours to fix, not to mention lots of putty. And
the stairwells next to the wheelhouse, though not
a major fix in my eyes, adds to the overall improvement
of the whole.
I'm not the least concerned about the color of
the built-up demo model. This is after all a quickly
built test kit being used to show the changes in
the retooled model. It's not a museum or contest
quality item nor is it intended to be. Schedules
must be adhered to. Those of us who are more
educated in the Titanic's color scheme will easily
see past this and be able to concentrate on the
changes in the plastic.
The missing stem is a curiosity, but I suspect
it was inadvertantly left off by the hired hand
who built the demo model. Remember, these demo
pieces are built "to a timetable", not "to a
standard". In any case, even if the stem were
somehow deleted from the kit, it would be probably
the easiest of all corrections to make.
I look forward to seeing the rest of the photos
as they're posted. Well done, Al! Attaboy!
