: Can anyone tell me, with any certainty, if BOTH of these ventilators (12 & 14, as numbered by Bob Read) were, in fact, on the Titanic? After exhausting every photo source I have at my disposal, I can see only one ventilator port-side aft of the first funnel. I have seen both ventilators on some MODELS, but in some very clear photos of Titanic, where presumably if both of those ventilators existed you should see them, I see only one. What's the deal?
I don't have Bob's vent file handy but from what you have described, there are indeed two vents on the port side aft of number 1 funnel. The larger is a curl vent that faces forward and is mirrored on the starboard side which both are supplied in the model, though the starboard's needs modifying as the motor faces the wrong way I believe. Anyway back to the port side. Just behind the large curl vent is another smaller curl vent that also faces forward and is very close to the larg one. The smaller curl vent has a Scirroco (sp?) thermotank attached to it on the inboard side between it an the trunk vent right behind #1 funnel. You will need to scratchbuild this curl vent/scirroco combination. Thre are spare thermotanks in the kit (tha Academy/Minicraft 1/350) so you really only need to make the curl vent. The wreck mosaic shows were they all were at one time, so do take it as a fact that both curl vents were there. Tall in front and the li'l guy right behind him. Cheers, Mike
