This "loop" is indeed presant on sailing. It can be seen on page 42 of Wels book It's more then likely it will be nearly impossible to see on most "further away" pictures as it's below the 2nd boss from the top on the rudder and about at the water line.
This appears to also be another detail Ken doesn't add in his art :)
