: Mike,
: As you said in your mail. The duct running from the cover aft to the air trunk is on the deck, not suspended.
: I've never seen any evidence that there were port holes in the fore end of the staircase cover. Finding the ones on the aft end was a complete fluke. I don't know why they were installed only on the aft end. In one of my original construction photos, the Titanic's cover is still steel black and unpainted. I can see no port holes.
: I'll look into it more.
Hello Bruce, having looked at the mosaic had me consider the possibility that the duct may have been slightly raised. The viewer can see that the aft end has been torn away from the trunk vent, probably at the location we discussed. The foreward end appear as though it may be attached between the portholes as the pipe looks bent here rather than torn free. I was not sure if the bow end is dettached and had just slid up this skylight wall when it collapsed inside the dome area as the roof opening itself collapsed into the stair cavity. I will place it from the trunk vent and let is sit on the skylight wherever it make contact. As for the portholes in front, do you or anyone know of any photos that shows the Titanic's front face of the Skylight. I have a few showing the side profile and a couple from the back facing forward on a 3/4 angle but any photo I have always has this area blocked by lifeboats. It would just seem odd to have them at the back end only, but that is not to say that isn't the only place
they were located. My model's dome structure is removable so I can add as many portholes that are determined to be there. Two for sure, peerhaps more. Hopefully someone has -the- photo that proves non existed on the front facing as the Olympic had. Also check the inside of the collapsed port wall of the Skylight cover in the mosaic. What do you think those spaced objects are near the inside top? Joist rests for the Skylight's cover? Something else? Cheers, Mike
