In the scale aircraft world there are numerous aftermarket kits and modifications to existing kits that are "resin". I have never dealt with any of these kits or parts. Does anyone know what type or resin is used? Is it a polyester resin like that used with fiberglass? Does it have fillers? Does anyone know the production technique? Is it cast into a mould?
The reason I am asking is that I am toying with the idea of studying how either the forward and/or aft sections of the Minicraft Titanic could be modified to correct the excessive sheer without producing an entire new hull.
It might be possible to have a resin kit of the ship from the forecastle forward. Custom jigs could be included to ensure that the forward part was cut accurately from the kit and so that the resin replacement could be accurately affixed to the hull.
If you know anything about resin kit production techniques, please share your information. It will be greatly appreciated.
