Lets get off of our superior knowledge horse for a couple
of minutes here. I never said the bow section dragged the stern down.
It wouldn't have completely broken at the same exact moment.
It would have torn from the top down, simply because
that was the general area of the aft expansion joint, and
the considerable open areas inside the ship. The keel plates would
have been the last area to break free, and the forward portion
of the torn stern would have been drawn down a bit before the
bow section finally broke free. At this point, water is rushing
in great quantities into that open area, causing
the forward area to drop even more. The engines may only comprise
a certain percentage of the weight of the stern, but they are a
concentrated amount of weight in a structure that is now being partially
boyant due to the trapped air that is being forced out. None of us was there,
none of us is the all knowing authority of what happened. This is all speculation,
and the movies point of view is about the best we can do, aside from building an
exact replica and sinking it in the same exact manner to find out if the stern bobbed
or not. 'nuff said.....
