The bow did not drag the stern down by the keel. If the whole structure of the ship could hold the stern to the bow, why would anyone expect the now bent and structurally weakened keel to do what the entire ship could not? Dah!

The stern did tip to port and assume an upright position for the final plunge. It took a moment to flood the aft compartments under the #5 & 6 cargo hatched before the stern went under.

The engines were not the main reason the front led the way. The engines are 6% of the mass of the stern. The inch thick hull and all the half inch decks comprising the aft 300 feet of the stern are 90% of the weight.
