: When did ENTEX first release the original TITANIC kit? I was excited when they did, because the one piece hull was a technical charm, bought it right away, worked on it and off and stored it over the years. Well, I just finihed it last night! It's nice, not as accurate as what is being done today, but when I started the kit, the wreck was still unknown and photoetched parts were rare. Anyway, I was just curious, I really not even sure what year I started the model. Thanks for your help.
Fran,
I'm not 100% sure of the release of this model, but it was either '74 or '75. I first heard about the pending availability of the Entex kit through the Titanic Commutator, the journal of the Titanic Historical Society. I actually ordered my kit through THS prior to the official release of the kit; many other THS members did as well. The Ken Marschall port profile that was used on the box was reproduced in black and white on the back of one of the '74 issues of the Commutator, the one in which I believe the announcement was made. It was quite an exciting day when UPS delivered that big box to my door! It's hard to remember, but I think the price was $29-$30, a hell of a lot of money, considering that the typical Revelle or Monogram kits on the shelf at the local hobby shop were in the $2 to $4 range! Even so, when they finally started arriving at the shops, they were often sold before they were on the shelf!
Regards,
Scott
