As Jason has pointed out (and others, if you go back through the message board archives) there are other good alternatives to thread for use as rigging material. If, however, you still prefer to use thread, it is readily available from fabric and craft stores in a variety of weights and colors to suit model work. Be sure to by a thread that is finely woven. The fine hairs that show up on the surface of nost thread can be laid flat by drawing the tread through wax or paraffin, or by drawing the thread through a polyvinyl acetate type glue and then through the fingers. It is a good idea to pre-stretch thread used for rigging. You can do this by hanging lengths of thread from a hook with some sort of suitable weight tied to the opposite end. The thread should be left like this for a few days, and then prepped in one of the manners mentioned above. All in all, I'd still recommend investigating alternative materials to thread.
