Stephen,
I hadn't relized just how close you are to Glasgow. If you have a chance one of these days, could you find out if Napier or their successsor is still in business? This is the company that suppiled the anchor handling gear and warping capstans for the Titanic and many other ships, both merchant and naval. If they are gone, perhaps their records have been retained by the University or perhaps by the city. Darlington Forge, now known as Sheffield Forgemasters Ltd., was also located in the same area. They made most of the major castings used in the construction of the hull, such as the propeller brackets, stern frame and rudder. You're on fertile ground, Titanic-wise, where research is concerned!
Regards,
Scott
