Gary,

Actually, some of the paper material recovered over the past few years have been restored to remarkable condition, especially those protected with one layer of cloth or leather material. The paper products stuffed into bags have emerged pretty well. I doubt the money that was from the safe was handled in a very good manner - remember the Telly Savalas special - their handling of artifacts was less than desirable. The mail bags, deep within the wreck, have some form of growth on them, but it is entirely feasible that the contents inside are still identifiable and readable. It would not surprise me if the mail bags had some decent stuff still inside, especially those toward the bottom of the pile. My observation is that the handling of the money from the sae was callous and along the lines of treasure hunters making a quick inventory of their 'loot', which was roughly and quickly paraded across the TV screen for all to see the 'riches'. Though RMS Titanic Inc. seems to be less than righteous in their recovery expeditions, I do have to say that I am impressed to a degree with their care in restoration of artifacts.

Regards,

Dan
