Mike,
Do you know of a reference photo that exists of what one of these hydrants actually looked like? I only know of one picture that shows what one looks like today.

: For those that are super detailing their models, you may recall that back on board 6 I was discussing a formula for locating hydrants about the boat deck, forecastle, etc. Using various sources such as the overhead flyby mosaic in Discovery Of The Titanic and Titanic At Two, some `plugs' became known, both on the Titanic and the Olympic, based on photo evidence. Checking out the relationships between the two ships using the numbers of the known plugs, guesstimates became possible for the unknown ones. Keeping this thought in mind I was able to locate one for sure on the Olympic behind the Gym area based on the Titanic At Two photo. I then assumed there should be one parallel to this on the port side. This would place a plug at the base of the Superstructure wall on the Boat Deck opposite the round curved Reading and Writing raised roof (in theory). Well I was looking at various pictures today marking out support stanchions for the Boat Deck in the first class area and came across two pictures the same in
: different books. One was more cropped than the other. The less cropped one shows more outboard detail along the Olympic's Boat Deck looking aft from the port corner of the Red/Write raised roof and what can be seen?!! Check page 38 of Marriott's Titanic and just aft of the stanchion at the base of the funnel guy wire immediately across from the round curved window is the hydrant plug as predicted! So it appears as though the formula is holding is own. Anyway, back to your regular scheduled message board.... Cheers, Mike
