: : To say that putting "glass" in the windows gives some life to the model is an understatement. I got a sheet of clear plastic from the hobby shop and put it behind every window on the ship. The glass brings a distinct sparkle to the model which is absolutely beautiful. It takes a little time to install the plastic, but the results are well worth it. Don't leave the windows as gapping holes - as far as I'm concerned, the installation of the glass is mandatory.
: Hi,
: Does anyone know if fiber optics would work if you also had the clear plastic on the windows. I'm sure you could glue the fiber to the plastic where it meets the porthole, but would it melt the plastic away?
: Thanks,

*** Dear Sean,
Unless one used a non crazing adhesive, such as jeweler's glue, I think That would be a problem and also one's fingers-hands would probably go cataleptic after hours and hours of delicate, over demanding manipulations. If one is going to use-attempt the brass tube-porthole principal, as Dwayne and Jesse had suggested, then thev'e got something like and automatic mount in place and the fibers inserted in each tube and held in place by strong tape or what have you. If one chooses not to use this idea, which I certainly will looks FABULOUS!, then it is certainly simple enough to devise one of many various kinds of stand offs-conduits for the optic fibers. These could be fabricated out of just about any matterial (probably plastic would be best) and can either be individual per strand or a long strip to hold the fibers in place. Actually the cabins-rooms behind the portholes can probably be simulated via the use of rectangular-square channel in one long strip which would be drilled to accept the strands but talk about going off the deep end. After modeling just about everything for almost 41 years anything goes if it does the trick.
Thanks Sean and thanks for allowing me to continue on with my incessant chattering.
Just one of your poor orphans.
