It is possible to achieve the "White Star Buff" color on the funnels with commonly available spray paints using the following technique.
Assemble the funnels (including the piping but without the inner funnel caps) and lay them out in the same relative positions they will be in on the ship, keeping them fairly close together. Spray on a base coat of Testor's #1214 Gloss Yellow. Then, WHILE THE BASE COAT IS STILL WET, spray a light coat of Testor's Model Master #1963 Flat Desert Sand. Spray this just enough so that the color matches the artwork on the kit box. You have to judge this by eye.
After the paint dries on one side of the funnels, turn them over and repeat for the other side. The color will probably not be 100% uniform but the slight variations will not be noticable on the finished model. After the buff color dries, mask the funnels and paint the tops black. Finally, remove the masking and give the entire funnels an over-coat of Testor's Model Master #1959 Semi-Gloss Lacquer.
Hope this helps. --Alex A.
