: Anybody know what the proper shade of red should be below the waterline? I have been unable to find a "rust red" or Pactra "terra cotta" that the instructions suggest. Roy M. suggested Testors 1785 "rust". Any thoughts?
I know this is an old posting but I had to chime in. To achieve the most accurate color for any painting project you should be prepared to mix colors. A good dark red for a base, a little yellow (very little), and a metallic black will work.
Mix enough for second applications and touch up of course. One other note, any time a model to this extreme scale (1/350) is being painted, the colors should be a shade dark. The reason is that a darker color conveys a loss of reflection (added absorbtion) that naturally occors when an object (ship) is seen from a great distance.
I hope this helps whoever reads it.
Best of luck and success...
